JSTOR

JSTOR is a shared digital library created in 1995 to help university and college libraries to free space on their shelves, save costs, and provide greater levels of access to more content than ever before. More generally, by digitizing content to high standards and supporting its long-term preservation, we also aim to help libraries and publishers of scholarly content transition their collections and publishing activities from print to digital operations. Our aim is to expand access to scholarly content around the world and to preserve it for future generations. We provide access to some or all of the content free-of-charge when we believe we can do so and still meet our long-term obligations.
JSTOR currently includes more than 2,000 academic journals, dating back to the first volume ever published, along with thousands of monographs and other materials relevant for education. We have digitized more than 50 million pages and continue to digitize approximately 3 million pages annually. Our activities, our fee structure, and the way we manage the service and its resources reflect our historical commitment to serve colleges and universities as a trusted digital archive, and our responsibility to publishers as stewards of their content. This underlying philosophy at JSTOR remains the core of our service even as we continue to seek ways to expand access to people beyond academic institutions.

MATARKA - database of contents of Hungarian periodicals

MATARKA Consortium of libraries processes the contents of all Hungarian periodicals of all fields, mostly in Hungarian. Some 15-20 percent of the original publications is available in electronic form.

MATARKA was established in 2002. The Consortium is led by the Library, Archives and Museum of Miskolc University. Members of the Consortium are mostly libraries, among them BME OMIKK, and editors of the processed periodicals. The content is available in the original format of the publication. The database contain authors, titles, columns and pages. If full-text is available, MATARKA provides link to the text. Since 2004 the Electronic Periodicals Archive & Database (EPA) of the National Széchényi Library has been a reliable platform for MATARKA and for the periodicals that are available in full-text.

Search in MATARKA is simple. It allows browsing, simple and combined search. When searching AND, OR NOT, operands are used. The expressions can be truncated using % or * marks. One can search in keywords, authors, part of title and the hits can be filtered by year of publication, by topic, or by journal, by year. The search can be limited to papers that are available in full-text or papers that are available in Electronic Periodicals Archive & Database (EPA).

At the end of 2013, MATARKA processes nearly 1500 periodicals, and links to 400 thousand full-text papers. (For updated statistics see: http://www.matarka.hu/other/stat.php.)

MATARKA is maintained by the voluntary contribution of the participating organizations. Database input can be prepared using any commonly used browser. MATARKA is ready to admit new members to the Consortium

Information on the database and on joining to MATARKA is available at www.matarka.hu, or sending mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

MOKKA

MOKKA is a Hungarian National Union Catalogue containing bibliographic and location data of all documents printed in Hungary or abroad that are available in any Hungarian library. The database does not contain periodicals.

MOKKA, as a union catalogue and an electronic directory of document location, offers a nearly complete catalogue of documents that have been acquired by any of the member libraries. (Information on periodicals is available in the National Database of Periodicals - NPA, which is a dedicated database of periodical published abroad and acquired by Hungarian libraries.) This is a registry having full coverage of Hungarian books and its coverage is estimated to 70% on books published abroad and held in Hungarian libraries.

In 1996 fifteen libraries signed a memorandum to enhance their co-operation in order to create their catalogues available in a central database. Nowadays that system is called MOKKA. Among the founding libraries there were the Hungarian National Széchényi Library, several university libraries, scientific and thematic libraries, among them both predecessor libraries of BME OMIKK, and Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library with its large library network. There are more than 1.7 million bibliographic records in the database including 60 thousand documents published before 1900. Member libraries can upload and download bibliographic records to help cataloguing and recataloguing. The next goal of the association to extend the co-operation to all Hungarian libraries and to integrate NPA to MOKKA.

Search of MOKKA is easy to understand and use. In case of simple search one can chose from nine fields including traditional fields (author, title, topic, etc.) of library catalogues and new ones like Universal Decimal Classification number or bar code. In case of combined search AND, OR and NOT operands are used. The set of matching documents can be filtered by date, by language, by location or by type of document. Document types here are books, maps, computer files, serials, sheet musics, musical compositions, audio and audiovisual documents. Experienced users can use common command language (CCL) search. To help searching there are browsing options: fields of author, title and topic. Finding a document one can judge whether the document is available in simple circulation or via interlibrary loan service.
