Dr. Ervin Nemesdy (1925-2002)



After his graduation at the Technical University in 1948 Nemesdy Ervin portréDr. Ervin Nemesdy Ervin started work at the Department of Highway and Railway Engineering as an instructor. His career began with railway engineering and construction studies and later on he focused on education of highway engineering. He authored the outstanding road curve marking tables including the calculation of clothoid transients. He contributed to the elaboration of highway engineering directives and dealt with alignment and traffic junction modernization topics.

In 1963 he was appointed to the head of the newly founded Department of Highway Engineering. Since then he studied special issues of highway engineering and construction. The geometry and pavement of several roads had been engineered exploiting the knowledge summarized by him. Together with his colleagues and with the support of the ministry he founded a modern laboratory of asphalt mechanics. During his asphalt studies he introduced a new testing method, which is known as Budapest method worldwide.

In the exhibition there will be items documenting his life, career, and recognition, kept by the family and by the Department of Railway and Highway Engineering and documents held by the University Archives and his works in the stock of BME OMIKK.

The exhibition can be visited in the aula of the library till 22nd January 2016.
