What is BME OMIKK?    

BME OMIKK is the National Technical Information Centre and Library, the Library of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. 


The library is the largest technical literature base in the country, with hundreds of thousands of textbooks, university notes, various scientific works and journals available here. You can also find century-old book rarities, fiction and non-fiction, as well as numerous publications on various topics from foreign language books to gastronomy, as well as thousands of Hungarian and foreign e-books and e-journals, image and video materials available even from home.

BME OMIKK primarily supports students of the University of Technology during their studies, but it is also a public library, so we welcome anyone who would like to use our rich collection.

Registration 

BME students can change their library membership for free through the Neptun system. To use the services that require registration, you will need a reader's card, which can be obtained in person at the library for a one-time card fee of only 300 HUF.

External visitors can use the library's reading areas and documents placed on the free shelves without changing their membership. Membership changes are possible according to the fee schedule.

On loan services 

  • Only registered members holding a reader’s card can borrow books in person at the circulation desk or at the SelfCheck↗︎ self-service terminal or SmartLock↗︎ self-loan machine.

  • Students can borrow maximum 10 books for either 2 or 4 weeks.

  • You can request books in advance↗︎.

  • The loan period can be renewed by 5 times in the reader’s online profile, by e-mail or phone, or in person.

  • A reminder will be sent 3 days before the expiration date via Neptun.

  • After the expiration date one must pay an overdue charge.

  • If the required book is on loan, you can reserve↗︎it.

  • You can return books either in person at the circulation desk or by throwing them in the return box placed in Building K.

 

Searching for Books and Articles

To search for the library's printed books, use the online catalog↗︎. The online catalog provides information about the library's collection and the availability of documents. It shows how many copies of the searched book(s) are available in the library, where they are located, and whether they can be borrowed or are only for in-library use. Browsing in the library is supported by catalog terminals placed in the reading rooms and the atrium.

BME OMIKK provides direct access to a wide range of subscribed content from scientific journal and article databases↗︎. These subscribed contents are accessible only from within the university or after setting up remote access.
 

Scientific articles, e-books, databases available at the university, the BME repository, and other freely accessible scholarly resources can now be browsed through a unified search platform↗︎.

Reading areas

There are 4 reading rooms: Textbooks Reading Room (TKO), Main Reading Room (NOLV), Technology and Natural Sciences Reading Room (MSZO), Economics and Social Sciences Reading Room (GTO), and 3 community areas: computer room (ground floor 1), community room on the ground floor nr. 2, community room on the first room (Building K, mezzanine 51) .

Opening hours 

The library is open between 8 am and 8 pm on weekdays. However, during the exam period the library welcomes students with an extended opening hour: the designated reading rooms are open till 10 pm.
