The records in greatest demand are documents relating to students (student registers primarily), the minutes taken during the sessions of the University’s leading bodies (University, Rector's and Faculty councils) and the records of the Rector’s Secretariat. Besides these records, the University’s programmes, timetables and curricula are in great demand.
Research in the Archives is subject to the regulations of Act LXVI 1995 concerning public records, public archives and the protection of private archive materials. It is also regulated by Act LXIII 1992 concerning the protection of personal and the release of public data.
The time limit for the research of student registers or other documents containing personal data is 30 years from the death or 90 years from the birth of the concerned person, and in case these data are missing, 60 years from the date of issue of the respective document. These limitations are, however, ignored if a document containing personal data is to be studied by a researcher holding the supportive declaration of an istitute or organization carrying out a proper research.
The conditions of research in the Archives are laid down in the Archives' Research Rules. We give research permission to Hungarian citizens holding ID cards, as well as to foreign citizens holding passports, provided they agree to observe our research rules. Archive material is not available for loan. It is only accessible for on-site research on request after a request form has been completed, submitted and accepted. Photocopying, scanning and taking photos are only possible with the permission of the Archives' Head and with the provisions of the current law on the protection of personal data and the protection of archive material.
