logo What is BME OMIKK?
BME OMIKK is the National Technical Information Centre and Library of Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the library of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

As a BME student, during your studies, you can rely on the country's largest technical literature base thanks to hundreds of thousands of textbooks, university notes, various scientific works, and journal collections. You can also find century-old rare books, belles-lettres and popular science literature, as well as numerous publications on various topics from foreign language books to gastronomy. The library not only holds printed books but also provides access to thousands of Hungarian and foreign e-books and e-journals, images, and videos—even from home.

BME OMIKK is a public library where anyone can enter and read the books and periodicals on the shelves. However, to use the library's full services, you need to become a member.

Registration

BME students can obtain library membership for free through the Neptun system. To use registration-required services, you need a library card, which can be obtained in person at the library. The one-time card fee is 300 HUF.

About Borrowing Services

Only registered readers can borrow from the library with a library card, in person at the circulation desks, at the SelfCheck self-service terminals, or via the SmartLock borrowing machine.
Students can borrow a maximum of 10 books for 2 or 4 weeks.
Books can be requested in advance via the electronic request form.
The loan period can be extended 9 times via the online reader profile, email, phone, or in person.
We send a reminder 3 days before the due date via Neptun.
After the due date, an overdue fee is charged at 50 HUF per working day per book.
If the desired book is already borrowed, you can place a reservation on it.
Books can be returned in person at the reader services desk or via the book drop boxes in the K building.

Finding Books

The so-called online catalog, also known as the catalog terminal, is available in all reading rooms and the atrium. The online catalog is a search system where you can easily find the book(s) you want to borrow or read with just a few clicks. The catalog shows how many copies of the searched book(s) are available in the library, their location, and whether they can be borrowed or are for in-library use only.

Reading Rooms

The library has four reading rooms: Main Reading Room (NOLV), Economics and Social Sciences Reading Room (GTO), Technical and Natural Sciences Reading Room (MSZO), Textbook Reading Room (TKO), and three community spaces: Computer Room (ground floor 1), Ground Floor Community Room (ground floor 2), and Upper Floor Community Room (K building high ground floor 51).
